'Red Sentinels' 2011
20 x 24 x 3/4
From my Tall Trees Series. Highly textured tall trees with layers of glazed colors, this style has been a favorite for my collectors for years. I've done these trees in many different colors, including greens, golds, rusts and reds. I think this latest warm red version has an Old World look and feel.

Oh Jenna! I love it! I wish we lived closer. I would have loved to see this one in person. I would have never known that the tree's were textured.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole! The texture is really cool. I'm going to add a photo with a side view showing the texture better tomorrow...Check out my new gig! I'm the newest member of The Daily Painters of Arizona. http://dailypaintersofarizona.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteScary and FUN!
I know! I'm so excited for you. I've got it bookmarked and have been checking to see your first post. :) Can't wait to see the side view. What did you use?
ReplyDeleteI use stamped thick gesso for the fern texture throughout...let this dry for a day....then very thin rice paper moistened with gesso for tree texture, pushed and coaxed into tree shapes.... let this dry for a day...After that I begin my translucent colored glazes 'til I like what I'm seeing. Three separate steps, but each one fun...I still haven't gotten the side view photo taken..maybe tomorrow....I've got my full attention on a painting I need to ship by Thursday!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely beautiful. I love the texture.
